What's going on here?

Gogofrog is breaking with convention to offer a new type of web experience. The basic idea is that you create your own 3D space (pad) that you can decorate the way you want and to reflect your personal style. In Gogofrog you can move from pad to pad discovering sites created by others and chat with people you meet along the way. You can also create your own place where you can invite your family and friends to visit and hang out.

What is a pad?

A pad is a Gogofrog 3D web space created and designed by you.

Why would I ever want a 3D Web site?

Why wouldn't you? The feedback we've received so far indicates that our users really like the idea and the experience. Have a look around and see how others are using their pads and imagine the possibilities for yourself. Listed Gogofrog pads.

As you'll see, Gogofrog provides a unique alternative to traditional web hosting. We're committed to the ongoing development of the platform and providing enhanced functionality and interesting features all while maintaining our commitment to simplicity.

How do I move around in Gogofrog?

To move your avatar around use the arrow keys or the W A S and D keys. You may also point and click on the floor to move.

The Z and X keys can also be used to move your avatar left and right within a pad.

Your mouse should be used to access the various menus on the Gogofrog interface including:
  • How to Move: this will launch the Navigation instructions to appear bottom left of your screen to remind you of which keys do what.
  • Find Site: this menu allows you to search for friends or pads of interest using the Pad name (if you know it), the Pad owners name or a description of the Pad. Click on your selection in the list of sites to navigate to that Pad.

Can I navigate with a mouse within a pad?

Yes, simply click anywhere on the floor and your avatar will move to that position.

How long does it take to obtain a Gogofrog pad?

Your pad can be up and running in minutes. All you need to do is complete a quick registration process. Once you have activated your account you have a pad. Log in and the fun begins.

Decorating or customising your pad can take a few minutes to a few days depending on your requirements. You can change the shape of your pad, the colours of the walls, add text, photos or pictures to your walls, fill your room with objects, add a sky etc.

We've provided a library of objects and images to get you started with decorating your pad however you might prefer to fill your pad with your personal photos, pictures and objects which you can upload to your personal libraries.

Alternatively, you might like to start with one of our basic room templates which you can modify as time and experience permit.

Do I need any technical skill or artistic talent to build my pad?

No. If you can use a mouse and some arrow keys that's all the skill you'll require.

We've provided a suite of easy to use tools to enable you to customise your pad. We've also provided room templates, object and image libraries that you can use to decorate your pad.

If you would like to decorate your pad using your own photos and pictures you will need to upload these to your personal image library - some skill might be required here to optimise the file sizes (see FAQ .

Is there an optimum file size for photos?

If you have 3D modelling skills you can create your own objects which you can upload to your personal image library. You may even like to sell a few objects by making them available for sale to the Gogofrog community through the Public Libraries.

How often can I change / update my pad?

You can change your pad as often as you like. Our hope is that your Gogofrog pad will evolve and change over time. Add or change content, change the shape of your rooms, change the sky or ground, add some text, update your photos etc.

We've noticed some pads changing frequently throughout the day to keep their visitors up to date with what's new. Others simulate changes we experience in the real world with the sky changing from sunshine to thunderstorms to moonlight to reflect local time and weather.

What is my pads web address?

Your pads web address will utilize the following format comprising the Gogofrog address and your username as shown below:

http://www.gogofrog.com/username/

Is there an optimum file size for photos?

When you select an image to upload, the file size of all images must be less than 2 MB. Files in excess of 2MB will not be uploaded. You can significantly improve upload speeds by converting photos to a file size between 10KB - 150KB before uploading. If you plan to put a lot of photos in your pad, we recommend you optimize the file size of all your photos first.

Gogofrog supports the following file types JPG, GIF, PNG, BMP and SWF (think audio & video). Please note that large file sizes will increase the time it takes for your pad to load and display.

What if I don't have any digital images to upload to my pad?

Check out our photo library. Gogofrog has provided a number of photos that you can use to decorate your pad. The library also contains photos that other Gogofroggers are willing to share, for free or for a fee.

How can I promote my Gogofrog pad?

If you want to maximize your pads visitor numbers then we recommend you develop an appropriate profile for your site by completing the relevant information in the "Describe Pad" screen. This function can be accessed via the "Account" menu located at the bottom of the screen.

The "Describe Pad" function allows you to describe and categorise your pad enabling it to be located via the Gogofrog "Find Site" function and even by standard web search engines.

Selecting "Site Statistics" on the "Account" menu provides access a convenient counter. This will tell you the number of visitors to your pad.

Can I send you tips or suggestions for improving Gogofrog or at least this FAQ?

Yes, we'd love to hear your tips and suggestions! Email us at support@gogofrog.com.

How can I get my object designed?

Custom built Objects - If you would like a specific static or animated object, image or avatar and it is not in our libraries, simply email us at ds@gogofrog.com. We can build the object specifically for you. Send us an email with what you are looking for.

Whether it's your company Logo, a fully labelled dissected frog or a Pterodactyl holding a sign that says Happy Birthday, it can be made. Just ask.

What factors effect the performance of my site?

Two main factors effect the performance of Gogofrog sites... your PC CPU & Internet access speed/bandwidth. Gogofrog is designed to work on all systems even with dial up (even the $100 laptop) but obviously having lightning speed internet access and a modern computer will enhance your experience with faster loading times.

Tips:
Pre-load your site before a presentation by simply visiting your site... once loaded into your cache your site loads/works much faster.

When you upload images opt for smaller file types such as compressed JPEGS - remember anything your CPU needs to load & render before your eyes as you spin around a room effects the performance.

Adding duplicate objects to your room is an effective way to build a 'fast' yet interesting looking site as the system only needs to load each object once.

While adding many objects around your room creates a unique looking space it also increases the load time of your site. Keep this in mind if you have a slow connection. We try to develop very light low poly objects (<100kb) but on occasion we have requests for some higher end objects such as the fish tank, volcano, t-Rex (these will take longer to load at 2MB).

Can I add Video to my site using URLs that services like YouTube provide?

Yes, when you want to add a video to your Gogofrog Interactive Video Player you have the option to paste a URL feed from YouTube. Be sure to copy and paste the URL code not the EMBED code.

What are the tech specs for accessing Gogofrog?

Gogofrog is basically a Flash application which requires Flash 9 (99% worldwide penetration). Gogofrog accesses the following ports on your system 80, 843, 1935 and 9338. Gogofrog may work with just port 8080 opened, although this is a backup mechanism and isn't as robust nor as efficient as being able to open connections on the other ports.

IF you can not access Gogofrog within your school, you may have a 'Port Blocking Issue' thus acting like a Firewall not allowing Gogofrog sites to be viewed/accessed. Simple to overcome as your school can open those ports. (Opening ports is a relatively fast process that should take minutes rather than hours.)
