What's going on here?

Gogofrog is breaking with convention to offer a new type of Web experience. We remember back to the early days of video games. Not as far back as the 2D Pong, mind you, but back when 3D games were nothing at all like the rich and dynamic experiences they are today. And Gogofrog is going to keep getting more realistic, too. The basic idea is that you move from room to room in a 360-degree environment to read important notices, peruse galleries, partake in video installations, listen to audio exhibits, or initiate/join stimulating discussions. And more.

Why would I ever want a 3D Web site?

Maybe you won't. But maybe you will. And the feedback we've gotten so far indicates that a lot of people are getting a real kick out of the whole idea. Some are using it as an extra dimension to a standard Web site they already have. Others are using it to create interactive quiz scenarios to amuse their friends and family with. Still others are using it for school projects. Check out how just a small sample of the Gogofrog community user their sites by perusing listed Gogofrog sites.

Gogofrog isn't trying to be a typical Web hosting service. It's trying to push the envelope and provide a unique alternative. We're going to keep offering better graphics and more useful and interesting functionality. Plus, 3D TV is coming in a few short years, and there's no reason to think it won't end up as standard one day on the desktop. In the meantime, there's Gogofrog.

Can I really navigate with the arrow keys?

Yes. But only if you want to. You can also use your mouse to navigate like you would a standard Web site. Each Gogofrog site has an automatic slide-out menu at upper left so you can jump to specific pages if you so desire. Otherwise, go ahead and use the keyboard arrow and Z/X keys to move within the 3D site. Still confused? Click on the 'NAVIGATION' slide-out menu at lower left of any Gogofrog site to view a demonstration.

Can I navigate with a joy stick?

Not yet, but we're working on it. Makes sense, though, doesn't it?

How long does it take to build a Gogofrog site?

Just a few minutes. We've kept the registration process mercifully short. Simply input a username (the name of your site), password and email address. (Your username and password are sent to your email address as a courtesy for your record keeping purposes.) If you start with one of the templates we've provided, you'll be up and running in no time. If you start out trying to build a customized site, you might end up having so much fun it could take a lot longer. But you should find it fairly simple and intuitive overall.

If I use a template can I change things around later?

Yes. All of the design features are still available if you choose to use a template. The templates simply give you a head start with a pre-built site. You can tweak things to your heart's content at any time.

Do I need any technical skill or artistic talent to build my site?

No. Just the basic skills required for pointing, clicking, typing, and selecting files. The same skills that allowed you to find Gogofrog.com in the first place! Once you've registered you'll find a simple step-by-step process for building your site, selecting colors, adding contents like text, pictures (and soon video and audio clips), setting up displays of RSS feeds, and editing contents and features. We've designed things so that no technical skills are required. We've also made things simple enough so that you can bluff your way through the artistic talent side of things.

What if I want to update my site?

You can go back in to edit your Gogofrog site as often as you like, add more content, change the shape of your rooms or change the sky or ground. We have noticed some sites changing content frequently throughout the day to keep their visitors up to date with what's new. We have even noticed sites changing the sky to suit what's happening in the real world; sunshine, clouds, thunderstorms and then a nice moonlit sky during their night.

What will my Web site address be?

Your username will form part of the address of your website as shown below:
http://www.gogofrog.com/username/

Soon we'll be implementing more flexible domain naming options.

Is there an optimum file size for photos?

When you select an image to upload, the file size of all images must be less than 2 MB or else they will not be uploaded. You can vastly improve upload speed by converting photos to a file size between 10KB - 150KB before uploading. If you plan to put a lot of photos in your site, we recommend you optimize all your photos first and perhaps save them together in a convenient file.

Only the following file types are supported JPG, GIF, PNG and BMP. Note that by selecting the 'high quality' option for too many of your images increases the loading time of your site and could also slow the display speed.

What if I don't have any digital images to upload to my site?

We have added several nice stock photos that you might like to use in your site. We are also planning to add a function soon which will allow our users to choose images directly from a photo library.

How can I promote my Gogofrog site?

If you want to maximize your sites visitor numbers then we recommend filling in all the fields at Step 6 (once you've loogged in) which describes your site so that people can use search engines to find your site. Be sure to activate your site. Also be sure to categorise your site when you set it up. Each time you log in to edit your Gogofrog site, a convenient counter will tell you how many visitors your site has had which will help you track how successful you marketing efforts have been.

"Free" sounds too good to be true. What's the catch?

The short answer is, there is no catch. But the longer answer requires some transparency on our part. We're trying out something new here, and the first priority for us is to attract a lot of users to help us run the Gogofrog service through its paces, provide us with feedback so that we can continually improve the experience and service. But we are a business, and we make no apologies for that. We are creating a viable enterprise. To that end, we will be offering options in the future that will be available to users on a paid basis. We also want to explore user site advertising and promotion options that can help users not only attract visitors, but generate some advertising revenues, too. But we will, however, maintain a core free service... Stay tuned for much more to come!

Can I send you tips or suggestions for improving Gogofrog or at least this FAQ?
