3D STUDIO MAX MODELLING TUTORIAL This tutorial is not an in depth modeling tutorial with 3D Studio Max, we are presuming you know how to do that already. There are plenty of tutorials on the internet on how to use 3D Studio Max. These steps will make sure that your model appears correctly in Gogofrog. Please Note: By far, modeling in 3D Studio max provides the easiest experience in regards to modeling and exporting to Gogofrog. Make sure before you start modeling that you set the units of your scene to centimeters. For your reference, the standard male / female avatars in Gogofrog are 90cm tall. This will give you a good reference point for when producing models so they appear in Gogofrog approximately the size as intended by you. Any version of 3D Studio MAX will be appropriate, however you will need an OBJ export plugin for your version of 3D Studio MAX. Below are some links to versions of free plugins on the internet, if you are having trouble finding an OBJ export plugin for your version of 3D Studio MAX, contact us and we will endeavour to track one down for you. STEP 1 - Create a new 3D Studio MAX scene - Click the menu File > New - Depending upon your version of 3D Studio MAX, you may be prompted. If so, choose the appropriate option to start an entirely new scene. ![]() STEP 2 - Model or Import your object - You may have a mesh from another program to import or are quite comfortable in modeling your own 3d mesh. In this example I have created a simple box. It is important to make sure that the origin of the scene is at the base of your object on the Z axis and the middle of your object on the X,Y plane is at. - As soon as you are happy with your model, assign it some texture coordinates and create a texture for your model. Please make sure you read the section entitled 'Creating textures for Gogofrog Models' ![]() STEP 3 - Export your model Before proceeding with this step, make sure that you have installed an OBJ export plugin for your version of 3D Studio MAX. - Select everything in your scene that you want to export - Go to the menu File > Export Selected - In the Save As type, open the drop down and select Wavefront OBJ - In the File Name text area, enter the name of the file you want to export as - You will then be presented with a window that will be similar to the following, match your settings to the following image - Click OK when you are done. ![]() Make sure you have a texture for the object and you are finished.
