MILKSHAPE MODELLING TUTORIAL

When modelling using Milkshape there are a few steps to be thoughtful of. They are the size of your object in Milkshape units and the rotation of the model on export.

This tutorial is not an in depth modeling tutorial with milkshape, we are presuming you know how to do that already. There are plenty of tutorials on the internet on how to use Milkshape. These steps will make sure that your model appears correctly in Gogofrog.

Please Note:

1 Milkshape unit is equivalent to approximately 2.6cm in gogofrog. The standard size of the default avatar in gogofrog is 90cm. If your object is to appear in scale to a default gogofrog avatar, then use this measurement to give it a sense of proportion to the avatar. Objects can be scaled in Gogofrog, but best to get it at least in a ballpark range of how it should appear.

STEP 1 - Create a new Milkshape 3D scene

- Go to the file menu
- Click "New"

This will start a new milkshape 3d scene to export.

STEP 2 - Model or Import your object

You may have a mesh from another program to import or are quite comfortable in modeling your own 3d mesh. In this example we have created a simple box. It is important to make sure that the origin of the scene is at the base of your object on the Y axis and the middle of your object on the X, Z plane.

Once you are satisfied with your model, assign it some texture coordinates and create a texture for your model. Please make sure you read the section called 'Creating textures for Gogofrog Models'.

STEP 3 - Export your object

You are now ready to export your object, this is a relatively simple process, but before you do, you will need to rotate your model so that it appears correctly in the Gogofrog world.

- Select everything in the scene that you want to export.
- Go to the menu Face > Reverse vertex order (your model will appear)
- Now, click the Rotate button
- In 'Rotate Options' click the 'Origin' radio button
- Deselect the Y & Z buttons, leave the X button enabled
- Enter a value of 90 into the text field above the X button
- Click the 'Global' radio button
- Click the 'Rotate' button

That's it!

Now all you need to do is to export the file:

- Go to the menu File > Export > Wavefront OBJ
- Enter the name of your file and decide where you want to save it

Make sure you have a texture for the object and you are finished. Leap into Gogofrog and start uploading!!

Please read the section called 'How to upload objects to Gogofrog'
